S&P 500 hits all-time high as market extends recent gains

US stocks rose to the brink of record highs last week as optimism about Brexit and US-China trade relations overcame a slew of weak earnings and economic data. The S&P 500 hit a record high on Monday, while the Nasdaq fell just short of its lifetime high touched in late July. The benchmark index closed at 3,039.42, around 14 points above its previous record set on July 26.
