Instagram expands ban on suicide content to cover cartoons and memes

Instagram is extending its ban on depictions of self-harm to cover cartoons and drawings. This follows an appeal from Ian Russell whose 14-year-old daughter killed herself in 2017. Ian’s daughter Molly had been allegedly looking at graphic content relating to suicide and self-harm before she died. Instagram had already banned graphic images of self-harm in February, following Russell’s protest.

And I do have to say that I am sorry for Ian's loss, but blaming won't bring her back or prevent someone determined to end things. And a cartoon might just be the catalyst to help someone understand the absurdity of ending it all being the best option.
