Brexit focus turns to holding election

Britain’s former finance minister Philip Hammond said on Sunday he would vote against PM Boris Johnson’s bid on Monday to force an election. Meanwhile, the Scottish National Party and the Liberal Democrats have said they will push for a Dec. 9 election. Johnson said earlier if lawmakers approve a Dec. 12 election he will attempt to push his Brexit deal through Parliament quickly.

It won't happen unless and until Johnson's government takes no deal off the table as an option. The opposition and many of his own party are afraid that he's using this call for elections as a way to run down the clock and slip a no deal past parliament and they'll never agree to an election while that threat exists.
