Twitter to ban political ads across its platform

Insisting that the reach of political messages should be ’earned’ and not ’bought’, Twitter announced on Tuesday that it was banning all political ads across its platform. The move comes in the wake of social media platforms coming under increased scrutiny ahead of the 2020 US elections. Facebook has ruled out a similar ban.

Awesome! I can't wait for these major industry leaders to get their accounts banned for "rainbow-izing" their logos in support of Pride month.... a purely political move. (sarcasm... will never happen.)

Let’s see if they actually hold true, my bet is they selectively apply it.

HaHa! This will not do much to prevent political leaders from directly saying what they want. It just stops paid ads.

The idea that political reach should be earned is a surprisingly solid ideal for twitter. It is probably naively idealistic. Still a solid ideal.

how much you wanna bet this will also be selectively enforced?

The Title says Apolitical ads. These would be ads with non political content or bias. The actual article and indeed action by Twitter say that "political" ads will be banned.

Good idea. Now if they could drop all their other forms of political censorship. Either allow it all or prohibit it all.

Did anyone else read through the tweets replying to Jack's announcement? Some were against it, but damn there were a lot of people begging for more restrictions or for the new one to have a broader scope covering material outside of the political.

Socialist media Publishers, run by communists, funded by Oil Kingdoms, all for the benefit of the Chinese Communist Party. Corrupting the marketing data with grievance studies fiction and debunked marxist theory filters. Costing American business billions. Costing the American economy trillions. All while not paying their taxes by pretending to be platforms and high tech industries, simply to get government grants and tax benefits that the Marketing and Advertising industries are not entitled to. Thus miss directing STEM research money into consumer messaging for political power and brainwashing people into actually believing men can have periods, that there are more than two genders(there isn't) and women have penises. Pay your taxes Jack and stop the censorship, you communist hack. And no you lunatic Siddhattha Gotama was not a communist.

if it drops political ads, does that mean they drop political people? if so, trump is gone, and the platform becomes poorer.

This is a good move, although I feel like it is more calculated than you would think. Obviously Twitter doesn't want the whole Facebook/political ads drama spilling into their platform, so they're being careful about this.

"political speech" is being redefined as we watch it happening.
