Protests plunge Hong Kong economy into recession

Hong Kong has plunged into recession for the first time in a decade after its economy was hit by a double whammy of street protests and the US-China trade war. Official figures estimated that GDP shrank by 3.2% in the third quarter, after a 0.5% decline in the previous one. The government said the protests had taken ’a heavy toll on inbound tourism’ while domestic demand also worsened.
