Ape fossils suggest human ancestors stood upright millions of years earlier

Fossils discovered in southern Germany of an ape that lived about 11.6 million years is leading researchers to believe that the distinctive human habit of walking upright may have evolved millions of years earlier than thought. Scientists on Wednesday said the ape, called Danuvius guggenmosi, combined attributes of humans (straight lower limbs) with those of apes (long arms).

S. Germany 12M ago? I thought humans evolved in African savanna and traveled to Europe much later. The Neanderthals first and then Homo Sapient.
