Don Cherry criticized for comments on immigrants, poppies

Hockey commentator Don Cherry is facing a backlash for saying immigrants not wearing poppies on Remembrance Day don’t respect for WWI soldiers. ’You people…you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy,’ Cherry said during the Coach’s Corner segment on Hockey Night in Canada. Cherry’s employer, Sportsnet, called his comments discriminatory.

I agree and disagree. it's a free country, so people should choose whether they wear a poppy or not. But I also agree (as an immigrant) that you should show your respect on one day/month of the year for the country your living in.

On one side, sports and politics should be like church and state, separated, so maybe this wasn't the best place to say that. On the other hand, it chaps my American butt not to see a deep seated reverence and respect for the military and its members. I support Cherry and I love to eat cherries.
