Modi’s BJP opts out of govt formation in important Indian state

Opposition parties scrambled to form an alliance in Maharashtra, a key state in India after the Bharatiya Janata Party, India’s ruling party, announced it would not form the new government there. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP decided to opt out of government formation in one of the country’s richest states despite bagging the highest number of seats in the recently concluded state elections.
