Trump pardons military personnel accused of war crimes

President Trump on Friday pardoned two Army officers accused of war crimes in Afghanistan and restored the rank of a Navy SEAL platoon commander who was demoted for actions in Iraq. The White House said Trump granted full pardons to First Lt. Clint Lorance and Major Mathew Golsteyn, and ordered that the rank Edward Gallagher held before he was convicted in a trial this year be restored.

No one can doubt the incredibly stressful situations these guys found themselves in, in incredibly dangerous places. But, they're professional soldiers, that's their job, they enrolled. No one forced them to do so. Posing with the corpse of a combatant you just killed does not reflect at all well on the US military, that's what scum in some nutjob rebel group does. As regarding the other incidents, we should know more about the circumstances. Were they combatants? Civilians?

This sends a horrible message to the entire world and to the entire military. The entire DOD pushed him to NOT do this. This is one of the worst moves he's ever made.

Good, they were being soldiers in a bad situation. It was not thier fault but that of bad leadership that put them there.

"The American Civil Liberties Union criticized the president’s action."... What a surprise!

Why would you pardon a person accused of a war crime, they should be tried to prove their innocence or their guilt.

1: combat situations. Anyone not involved cant know what was going on. 2: idc how we deal with people who are willing to use women and children as shields cut off heads and blow themselves up in an effort to kill someone who doesnt believe in their imaginary friend. Piss on their bodies and boil them in pigs blood as far as I'm concerned.

Funny, I don't recall any of you snowflakes getting all pissy when Obama pardoned a bunch of criminals.

I'm trying to remember the media outrage over Bradley Manning getting a free pass from Obama. Oh ya.. There was none. No cries of "it will undermine the military justice system!"
