Samoa: Currently over 700 suspected cases of measles on island of 200,000

The island of 200,000 inhabitants declared a measles epidemic in October. Approximately 40% of infected required hospitalization with at least 6 fatalities linked to the outbreak. With an estimated 1/3rd of the population not being vaccinated, vaccinations are now mandatory. The majority of deaths are in unvaccinated infants.
