A former employee of Britain’s Hong Kong consulate claims Chinese secret police beat and tortured him as they pressed him for information about activists leading the pro-democracy protests. British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab condemned China’s treatment of Simon Cheng, which he said ’amounts to torture’. Cheng worked for the British mission’s business-development team when he was detained.
