US-China trade war could spark real war, warns Kissinger

Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, speaking in Beijing on Thursday, warned that China and the US are in the ’foothills of a Cold War’. Kissinger said, ’World War I broke out because of a relatively minor crisis ... and today the weapons are more powerful’, suggesting that if left unresolved, this could escalate into an armed conflict.

Kissinger is wrong about the trade war sparking a conflict. If there is a conflict it will be caused by China directly attacking a US ally, which would drag the US into a war, which China knows and will not do. But Trump is not a war monger so it's fairly low risk right now.

Possible but unlikely because neither country has anything to gain by, or any interest in going to war with the other. Only an aggressive move by China against Taiwan or some US ally is likely to spark a war and it would likely be a limited naval war. Neither the USA or China has the military capacity to invade and occupy the other so any war would likely be a primarily naval conflict.

Nice fearmongering Asskisser, and I'm guessing that the solution is to capitulate to China's terms?

I wouldn't be surprised if Trump decided to start a war. It would drown out the impeachment, and maybe even lower support for it, since people are less likely to oust the president in a time of war. He knows he's screwed. It's just a matter of time until he's out of office. Let's hope he doesn't try to take the whole planet with him.

He's right about the new Cold War, it's already begun. The USA feels it cannot be challenged for top spot, simples. Whether that's down to Trump's actions is open to debate, personally I think this was always coming.
