A former student from Boston College decided to plead not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter on Friday. Prosecutors have leveled these charges after she was allegedly found to have been encouraging her boyfriend to commit suicide.
Inciting suicide is illegal. Sending Hundreds of texts telling someone to kill themselves is illigal. There's very little leeway in this kinda thing when there is pages of recorded evidence.
I don't mean to sound cold hearted on this, it sucks that the guy took his own life, but unless she physically pushed him off the building, he's the one responsible for his death. This whole mindset that everyone else is responsible for your own actions, but you, is LITERALLY killing people.
Direct incitement to violence is illegal. It is one of the very few limitations on our free speech. It has stringent criteria, including being directly related to the violence and having a high likelihood of causing the violence. Sounds like maybe what she did was indeed illegal.
