Harvard and Yale students disrupt football game for fossil fuel protest

The Harvard-Yale football game was delayed Saturday afternoon after student protesters from both universities staged a sit-in. The protest was over fossil fuel divestment, something students from both schools have been asking their administrations to do for several years. Protesters were eventually removed from the field by police.

Why is sports in the political area? Oh wait it is nasty propagandized youth protesting in the wrong place. Kids none of the people you are preventing from watching this game can change the laws on pollution You would think a ivy league student would already know that. Kids you have the right to protest by addressing the GOVERNMENT with a redress of grievances not interrupt sporting events and block traffic. This is not protesting it is criminal mischief

Privileged Harvard and Yale students sit on a manicured lawn protesting an elitist argument made by elitist people.

They should have resumed the game and if protestors got trampled so be it.

There are just certain areas in society which should be free from politics. Sports is one such area. Education is another.

Just sitting there all boring like, if they were going to waste people's time like that at least they could do something entertaining.

The comments on NewsVoice are, on large, shockingly out of touch. Has anyone out there noticed? Let’s look at this thread. People commented about how the students aren’t doing anything useful, or the venue doesn’t help their case... yada yada yada. Which is weird, because college football is a major money maker for colleges and universities. This means that the students will have the greatest impact on the college because they hit them where it hurts most, their wallets. Seems like the students new what they were doing. Showing they put thought into HOW to effect change on their campus. I don’t understand the NEED to criticize them or even the arguments used to do so. Am I taking crazy pills? Or am I missing something?

did any of them walk to the game do any them always take the bus to get to school. people go to sporting events to escape politics and what's going on in the world not to have their good time delayed because activists want to make a point

Keep preventing people from enjoying life and see how quickly they see your point. Idiots.

They can never get their own audience. They always have to interrupt somebody else's successful event, and even then, it just makes that audience dislike them even more. If anyone thought they were even vaguely important they wouldn't need to steal an audience in the first place.

They mean well, poor things. I feel like all these people are trying so hard to make a difference. Their intent is noble. I just wish their party would show them how to ACTUALLY make a difference instead of being obnoxious and doing things that turn people off and do more harm than good for their cause. For example, for climate change, the number one problem is China and India emitting so much pollution. If they really care, which at this point I think they do, are they willing to start a world war? This is a hard problem...something that has to be solved sitting down and having conversations with world leaders. China and India need incentives to stop their crazy pollution crisis...but honestly what can we do? Let's talk about REAL solutions. Adults need to start reallt talking.
