Tesla already has 146,000 pre-orders for its Cybertruck

Two days after a slightly embarrassing launch event, Elon Musk tweeted saying the Cybertruck is already racking up a lot of interest. Tesla has received 146,000 preorders for the electric pickup truck, Musk said on Saturday. With customers dropping $100 refundable deposits for each preorder, the company’s raked in $14.6 million.

This is genius. Absolute genius. Musk knows Tesla is currently standing on investor funding. It has money tied up in loads of high value stock that it can't sell as it released a new model which made it undesirable for which it can't fulfill demand. Cash flow is hard. So he does things like flamethrowers and announcing semis which just can't happen. But this.... This is gold. Announce a product which isn't ready and really won't be for a while if they can't get a chunk of polycarbonate to not shatter. Then, allow pre orders for an absurdly low amount of money that people see as risk free as it's refundable. But it's low enough to generate loads of pre orders and for people to leave that money in the company even after delays. It's a loan, effectively. From customers. Very, very good. I'm impressed.

When people are delusional about Elon and his Ideas, of course they will buy anything this guy produces. Even if it looks like a painted Cardboard Box.

Elon gets a very small severance from paypal to start a company named after Edison's apprentice turned nemesis to then initially challenge NASA and then work along side NASA to promise return to the moon after 50+ years and the restored hope of escaping to Mars... Ok then...
