The article puts "death threats", "racist", and "homophobic slurs" all on an equivalent basis. In reality, the former is in fact a crime, whereas the latter are protected speech and subjective as to whether they even exist. Some things are called "racist" if uttered by one person, but are not if uttered by another. For example, the "n-word". "Homophobia" is a fabricated term. Nobody is really "homophobic" as the term suggests an "irrational fear or hatred of homosexuality" but it's commonly applied to people who simply disagree with the public acceptance of homosexuality as an acceptable behavior. So why lump a true crime in with protected speech? The answer is obvious. To condition the public into criminalization of speech.
