Canadian sniper breaks record for longest confirmed kill shot

A sniper with Canada’s elite special forces in Iraq has shattered the world record for the longest confirmed kill shot in military history at a staggering distance of 3,540 meters. The Canadian Armed Forces confirmed Thursday that a member of Joint Task Force 2 made the record-breaking shot, killing an Islamic State insurgent during an operation in Iraq within the last month.

Why is this news? It happened two years ago and was reported on back then.

To be fair Justin Trudeau holds this record for killing Canada.

Whilst these single shots are just insanely impressive, as a target shooter I find the most impressive ones to be the repeated ones. There was a sniper who (at some ludicrous range) took out a machine gunner, his mate and then put a round into the gun to disable it. For me, the real challenge is reproducing an awesome shot again and again. It is a challenge I fail at. Lots. I'd love to do some real long distance shooting but the only place near me is an MOD range and they keep cancelling shoots. I'm not buying an expensive rifle to be hardly able to use it at the MODs whim.

JTF-2 is really badass, worth reading about. Like a real life Ghost Recon unit.
