China summons US ambassador over Hong Kong rights Bill

China has summoned the US ambassador Terry Branstad to demand that the US scrap legislation backing Hong Kong’s protest movement, or ’bear all the consequences’, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday. The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act awaiting President Trump’s signature supports human rights and democracy in the city, while threatening to revoke the territory’s special economic status.
