New Jersey hospital admits to giving kidney transplant to wrong patient

A New Jersey hospital has acknowledged a kidney transplant mix-up. Officials at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden said that on Nov. 18, a patient underwent a successful kidney transplant. However, that organ was supposed to go to a different patient who was higher on the transplant list, who had the same name and age. The other patient underwent a successful transplant a week later.

Doing them out of order isn't even in the same league with sticking a kidney into someone that didn't need a new one. So luckily they were able to get new kidneys for both patients that needed one.

Story summary is misleading. Both patients needed kidney transplants, both had the same name, and both were roughly the same age. The original designated recipient got their transplant 6 days later. It all ended well.
