German military apologizes over ’retro’ Nazi-era uniform post

The German defense ministry apologized Wednesday after the military posted an image of Nazi-era uniform on social media as an example of ’retro fashion’.The uniform was posted on the armed forces’ Instagram account with a caption: ’Retro’. Defense Ministry said the uniform was a Hollywood costume used for the flick ’Valkyrie’ and described the blunder as a case of ’thoughtlessness’ by an employee.

Say what you will about their politics but the National Socialists dressed much nicer than today's Democratic Socialists.

Not related to this article directly, but always wondered who the crazy SOB was that designed the SS uniforms with actual skulls and all that. I mean that is just plain evil looking.

Nothing to apologize! They should apologize for the modern uniforms.

So my understanding is retro, while short for "retroactive", is used to denote 'old shit'. It is also my understanding that Germany doesnt use nazi era uniforms anymore. What isnt my understanding is how effecrively saying "here is an example of old shit uniforms no longer in use" is a contraversial statement.
