Bronze cockerel statue to be returned to Nigeria by Cambridge college

An antique bronze cockerel statue is being returned to Benin City, Nigeria by Jesus College of Cambridge University. Taken by British colonial forces in the 19th century, the restitution of the antique will likely put pressure on other institutions to return similar artefacts. The move comes after the Open Society Foundation began a $15 million initiative to return ’looted’ objects from Africa.

I agree with repatriations like this... unless going to Muslim-majority countries where people who truly follow the Quran will destroy the art. Then I think stable nations do the world a favor by preserving the art in a safe place for everyone to visit and see it.
