India’s acknowledged lunar lander crashed within 500 meters of target

In the first acknowledgement, India has said its Chandrayaan-2 Vikram lander crashed during an attempted moon landing. In a new report, the Indian government’s Department of Space said the Vikram moon lander separated as planned on Sept. 2, but then braked too hard when it came to descending on Sept. 7.

Landing is indeed very hard. Looks like the Indian moon lander approached at a higher velocity than they thought it was and went splat.
