Google manipulates search engine to favor big business, says WSJ investigation

A recent Wall Street Journal investigation into Google’s search algorithm has found that the search engine manipulates its search results to hide controversial results related to sensitive subjects, as well as to favor big businesses. The study conducted over several weeks from July to September 2019, compared Google Search results with Microsoft’s Bing and DuckDuckGo.

Bing is actually pretty decent, especially with pictures. DDG is ok for just web results. Metacrawler if you REALLY wanna dig into the controversial.

I mean, if you are an ill-informed moron without criteria this algorithm dictates your life, otherwise you'll find what you are looking for if you don't conform with the first 3 links it shows you.

anyone using google search is just getting what they deserve. Google rose to the top because they were the best at delivering relevant results. now they aren't; use bing, use yandex, use qwant...

Is anyone really surprised about this? Big business helping out other big businesses dupe the little people.

Sure, everyone here can decide to use a different search engine, but untold millions of people use Google. As a small tech business it means it’s harder than ever to not only break through the noise of the content glut, but we also need to overcome the Google programmed bias. Not that this is anything new. Just didn’t hear this perspective much in other comments. Poor, poor pitiful me.

Then that should be enough Justification to break Google up but I'm afraid our countries are far too corrupt to raise a finger. Just question and move on sadly.
