Japanese doctor Tetsu Nakamura, who devoted his life to providing aid in Afghanistan, was killed by unknown gunmen Wednesday along with five Afghan colleagues. Nakamura, 73, was attacked while riding in an aid vehicle in Jalalabad. He was credited with changing a desert in Nangarhar to forest. Nakamura had been awarded honorary Afghan citizenship for his work. In 2003, he won the Magsaysay Award.
