Pope accepts resignation of US Bishop accused of covering up sexual abuse cases

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of US Bishop Richard Malone who has been at the center of a sex-abuse crisis in his diocese. The Bishop of Albany, Edward B. Scharfenberger, will now administer the diocese of Buffalo until a new bishop is appointed.

I would prefer something more serious than a resignation.

A step in the right direction, but only a step.

He should be excommunicated and shunned by his church. Instead, he's demoted and left in a position to continue his work covering up and defending the world's largest pedophile enterprise.

The hits keep on coming. The US has to revoke the tax exempt status of the Catholic Church immediately. There is more than enough evidence to prove the church is a criminal enterprise.

I find it somewhat refreshing seeing all of these "hallowed" institutions finally being exposed for the incideiousness they hide and cultivate. I discarded my christain faith when I was 12 after 1)reading about the accounts of the crusades and 2) developing a further understanding of the civil rights movement time period in America and how those FOR slavery and segregation were the same ones preaching forgiveness and piety. These outdated and rotting intstitutions truly need to die ( be dismanteled and remembered only in cautionary tales)

Candy, you are correct. I wanted to see how my intent was deflected in order to foist the blame onto the leadership. The laity is everyone not ordained. Where are the demonstrations, the public outrage? Epstein is vilified as a "monster". Praise is heaped upon criminals who kill pedophiles in prisons. Yet the members of this tax supported bunch of monsters is always let off being punished by the state AND by the Church! These disgusting bastards are "demoted" but left to continue their despicable crimes. It is public record! I could never allow myself to be a silent partner in what is proven to be a cesspool of degeneracy.
