Hungry artists eats up $120,000 banana at art gallery

An artwork that sold last week for $120,000, hailed as ’a symbol of global trade’, has been eaten. The piece by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, included a banana duct-taped to a wall, on show at the international gallery Perrotin at Art Basel in Miami. New York performance artist David Datuna ate it, saying he was hungry. The piece was earlier purchased by a French collector for $120,000.

That is not art. It was a banana duct taped to a wall. Frankly eating that banana is closer to being art.
