Sesame Street puppeteer Caroll Spinney dies at 85

US puppeteer Caroll Spinney, famous for playing Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on children’s TV show Sesame Street, has died at the age of 85 at his home in Connecticut. The Sesame Workshop said that the puppeteer lived for some time with dystonia. Spinney won multiple Daytime Emmys for his work, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award. He also earned a Grammy Award, for best children’s recording.

I remember when Caroll Spinney came out dressed as Big Bird at Jim Henson's memorial service and sang Its Not Easy Being Green, after he had to be assisted off because he barely made it through the song before breaking down inside the suit. Rest in peace Carroll thank you for being a part of many of our childhoods.
