California church displays Jesus, Mary and Joseph as caged refugees

A Southern California church has set up a display titled ’protest nativity’ depicting Jesus, Mary and Joseph in separate, barbed-wire cages, as a way of protest against the now-defunct immigration policy that separated families at the border. ’What if this family sought refuge in our country today?’, reads a statement next to the display.

Except Joseph was native to Bethleham and was following a Government decree to comply with a census. They were literally following the law....so....

Stop trying to inject politics into religion. Edit: To clarify this is NOT sarcasm. Separation of Church and State goes both ways. I don't want my politicians telling me how to worship. I don't want my priests telling me who to vote for. Injecting morality into law is a noble effort but it seldom succeeds.

I can understand why people dislike separating families and the damage it does to the kids. I get that sentiment but these “parents” decided to break the law and should be punished like any other prisoner. Prisoners in America aren’t allowed to see their kids for extended periods of time, it is part of the punishment that they have to live with that feeling of shame and regret. To let these families stick together might be the sentimental thing to do it does not deter other people from taking the same action. It does not change the minds of these people that what they did was wrong. I feel that these camps aren’t a place for kids, after all the kids had no say in whether or not their parents wanted to drag them off to. Entrusting our government with the care of these kids was a mistake. I think these kids should have been sent back to their country of origin to family if at all possible.
