Missouri teacher asks students to ’set your price’ for slaves

An elementary school teacher in Missouri was placed on administrative leave after asking students to set a price on slaves. The question was part of an assignment given to fifth-graders at Blades Elementary School in St. Louis last week. The assignment was completed during class time and students were asked to consider how plantation owners traded for goods and slaves.

More cancel culture insanity. This is a great assignment. How better to get kids to really think about slavery and what it means than to confront them with having to put a price on a human life. What better way to not only get them thinking but to get them to actually understand how horrible the very idea of slavery is. This nonsense from the Left that no one should ever feel uncomfortable is hurting our kids development and our society.

I do not see anything illegal, unethical, hostile, or discriminatory in this assignment, as described. Getting the NAACP involved is stupid.

I believe that slaves were actually sold at auction.

Crucial information to teach. How else will we know how to sell slaves in the future? Teach taxes and slave price guides.

U.S.A. 2019.. they could have picked any of the hundreds of thousands of jobs to teach early economics, but they had to go with the slave trade. smh

Oh geez. In the time it took for this class to complete this non instructive busy work, they could have had instruction in phoenics, a skill which would enable the students later to read a classic such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, which adresses the very point of human worth vs the price of a slave the teacher so ineptly failed to convey.
