Nude portrait of Zapata in high heels sparks fury in Mexico

Protesters blocked the entrance to a Mexican art gallery on Tuesday over a painting showing revolutionary hero Emiliano Zapata striking a pose in the nude. The painting shows Zapata, naked on a horse, in high heels and a pink hat. Scuffles broke out between the protesters and counter-demonstrators defending sexual diversity. Zapata, a leader in the Mexican revolution, was assassinated in 1919.

I can see why they're angry

The Mexican people have every right to be outraged. This would be the equivalent of hanging a lewd painting based on Washington crossing the Delware in the Smithsonian. If art is meant to stir up emotion then this piece succeeded.

"Zapato" is spanish for "shoe". And in spanish most if not all nouns have a gender, so "Zapata" kind if sounds like the feminine form for shoe... I have no idea if that is a play on words that the artist did with the high heels but probaby...? Anyway just came here to say that a protest over this is hella dumb, grow up people and get on with your lives.
