9-in-10 Tory ad carried a misleading claim, says report

An investigation by First Draft, a non-profit organisation working on debunking fake news, has alleged that 88% of Facebook ads paid for by the Conservative Party in the UK in the first few days of December contained misleading claims. By comparison, there were no misleading claims in ads run by Labour over the same period.

Check out the BBC headline. Reported the same story but conveniently dropped "Conservatives" in the headline

Subjecting all political advertising to the same rules as product advertising must be at the core of every democracy. The truth is that most people don't have time to fact-check ads themselves. Those who do likely use biased sources and don't bother fact-checking ads they see as helpful to their beliefs. The result is a dumb electorate voting based on misinformation almost exclusively. The battle shouldn't be who can lie most convincingly or spark the most outrage. The battle should be who can tackle all of the issues the best. I don't know about you, but I want good, honest people in government.
