Police arrests protesters in India’s northeast, imposes curfew

The Indian police have arrested several protesters in the state of Assam and has imposed a curfew. Violence erupted when protesters defied the curfew in Gauhati, the state’s capital. The demonstrations are against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill which will exclude Muslim refugees from obtaining citizenship in the country.
