New study estimates natural human lifespan to be 38 years

As per new research by scientists at Australia’s national science agency, humans have a ’natural’ lifespan of around 38 years. This is based on a genetic ’clock’ computer model researchers have put together that fits data on how long different vertebrates typically survive. Advances in living standards and modern medicine are the reason for an increased life expectancy.

I wish they'd rather find a formula for happy life instead.

Annoying that a few scientists come up with a model that fits that data pretty well and it is reported as a new truth and as if there was no existing knowledge in the field. As the authors of the study themselves note, we don't have great estimates of the "natural' lifetime of species but that is the input data that they used to estimate the model. I think science is very insightful but it is problematic when it is read too broadly and that undermines people's trust because it is perceived to be jumping all over the place or
