German piglets ’sue over castration’

In a legal first, piglets in Germany have been listed as the plaintiffs as animal rights activists have asked Germany’s top court to ban the practice of castrating young male pigs without anaesthetic. Farmers argue that the castration is necessary to prevent ’boar taint’, the occasional occurrence of a foul smell when cooking pork. The procedure has been banned in Sweden, Norway and Switzerland.

Animal rights activists tried suing in EU courts a few years ago for chimpanzees to be recognized as having human rights; that failed. I don't know if German courts will ban this or not.
