US unveils plan to import lower-priced drugs from Canada

The Trump administration moved forward on its plan to allow Americans to legally get access to lower-priced medicines from Canada. Health officials unveiled a proposed regulation that would allow states to import many brand name drugs from Canada, with federal oversight. Industry trade groups in both countries opposed the plan, saying it will not lower costs and could hurt Canada’s drug supplies.

THIS is how you lower healthcare costs, let's end the monopolistic industry wherein a few major drug companies elect politicians to keep their profits up and bring the free market into healthcare.

it won't work? then why do they care, just let it happen, and fail. that's a lame excuse.

Of course the INDUSTRY which profits will say it won't cut costs.

Anti-biotics, please. Staph infections and sickness from drug resistant bacteria really suck, but US pharmecueticals seem disinterested in producing new anti-biotics for some reason.

Not a bad idea. Healthcare costs are too high and when you want to lower costs you need to increase the supply and increase competition. Economics 101.

Yeah now that it's election season.... My only question is why didn't he do this 3 years ago when he first got elected instead of raising drug prices?

@Young Conservative And where do you think they will be imported from? Canada? Nice try bucko. So we have the social medical system, limiting drug pricing and subsidizing the cost of drugs and you come along and buy it up. IE That is why insulin is 3x cheaper in Canada. You fix your 'not having a lunch by taking others' and saying you can't do what the do, but are fine with profiting off of it, and Canadian tax payers funding your drug prices. Ya. good theory. Hypocritical don't you think? Fix the holes in your pool before you start taking our water to keep your pool filled, thank you very much. I hope Canada reacts by a 25% export tariff to America so we get our taxed contributions back before the drugs leave the country. I don't want to be the one paying for my medical system and you benefiting.

The US can't regulate its own pharma companies and has to crawl to its neighbor to the north to get around the rampant greed. This isn't success, you clowns, it's a display of abject failure of your system.

wtf.. how about getting on our own drug companies to lower prices and also make them release all the cures theyve been hiding from all of us. when does the drug companies of america be brought up on charges of crimes against humanity for price galging and hiding cures. when does our government start working for us instead of just trying to line theyre own pockets.. im really getting sick of this BS. its time we run our crooked governments out of office and start running our governments ourselves like Washington and Lincoln intended for us to do. im fed up with this bs congress.. very few of them actually give a crap about any of us.

Yet people would rather legislate drug companies in the US, but the US healthcare companies are the ones leading a majority of research, which isn't free. Granted, costs are insanely high, and there's gotta be a solution, but reducing income to these companies isn't going to have the impact most people think it will. That, or it'll continue like this and then Raccoon City will go silent.
