45 injured after 69-vehicle pile-up in Virginia

At least 45 people were injured after a nearly 70 vehicle pileup occurred on an icy and foggy Virginia highway on Sunday morning. A long string of cars can be seen on Interstate 64 in pictures with cars being damaged at different places and firefighters standing on hoods and roofs in order to release those trapped inside their cars.

Would be interesting to know how an autonomous vehicle would operate under these super dangerous road conditions.

I would like to point out that car crashes are incredibly frequent in Virginia. I live here, and traffic is horrendous. Roads need to be expanded, but the government is insistent upon carpooling, bike lanes, buses, and trains. This also goes without mentioning how trash most drivers are here, mostly from people falling asleep or being intoxicated or using cell phones while driving (already illegal btw). There isn't a day that goes by when the highways AREN'T backed up by some numskull crashing and taking hours to move to the shoulder. The current best solution in place is the new back roads that are opening up, and the corporate contractors that created toll roads that also function as HOV-3 lanes. It eases pressure off the main highway, and thus speeds up travel.

Maybe the Governor should worry about his states highway budgets instead of taking citizens rights away.
