Ecuador says Galapagos fuel spill ’under control’

Ecuador has said a fuel spill in the Galapagos Islands, after a flatboat carrying 600 gallons of diesel fuel sank, is under control. The Orca barge tipped over after a crane collapsed while it was loading a container onto it. The barge crew are reported to have jumped into the sea to safeguard their lives. Authorities activated emergency protocols to contain the environmental impact of the spill.
