France blocks export of €24m Cimabue masterpiece found in kitchen

France has blocked the export of an early Renaissance Cimabue masterpiece found in a French woman’s kitchen that fetched more than €24m at auction. France has barred the export of Christ Mocked for 30 months to allow time to raise funds to buy it for the nation. France’s culture ministry said it would work to acquire the painting so it could join another Cimabue work held by the Louvre.
