Algeria’s president names new prime minister in wake of anti-government protests

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Saturday named a university professor and former diplomat as prime minister as he builds a government to handle political unrest and economic challenges. The new prime minister, Abdelaziz Djerad, 65, served in government in the 1990s under a previous president but was sidelined by president Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Bouteflika was ousted in April after two decades.
