Fury over UK teen’s conviction in Cyprus rape claim

A UK teenager facing jail after she was convicted of fabricating a rape claim in Cyprus has triggered a furious reaction on social media. Activist and organizations have condemned the conviction and demonstrations took place outside the court. The teenager had told the court she had been ’forced’ by police to change her story, telling the judge she was ’scared for my life’.

So let me get this straight. We have contradictory statements from this girl, a recanted accusation and video evidence which shows that she was willingly engaging in sexual acts with these 12 men. Yet it's all just lies, a conspiracy and a rigged justice system and she was absolutely without a shadow of a doubt a victim of now not only rape but also a miscarriage of justice. Right. Here's a tip British government: stay the hell away from this one with your "concerns".

So her claim is basically that [A] she was in fact raped, and [B] the Cyprus courts were biased against her for unknown reasons, and [C] "she was scared for her life" (haha, right...). This is a lot of contrivances that she requires us to believe. I do not believe her. She is doubling-down on her reputation destroying attack against the boys she was with, and now she is expanding it to include the justice system of Cyprus in its entirety - from law enforcement officers to the detectives to the prosecutors to the defense attorney to the judge. She is saying that the entire system is what? Corrupt? Anti-female? Anti-British? No. She lied, and she deserves to be forced to travel the continent and confess what really happened and explain how and why she chose to instead lie and damage the reputation of those boys.

Put the bitch away for her bullshit. Actions have consequences and she lied at every turn. Let her rot.

The conundrum, do we criminalize deliberate false accusations at the risk of discouraging people to come forth?
