Diet Dr. Pepper does not promise weight loss: US appeals court

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has said that the makers of Diet Dr. Pepper have not deceived consumers into believing that the soft drink could help in weight loss. In a 3-0 decision, the court ruled that the use of the word ’diet’ in a soft drink’s brand name is only related to the calorie content of the drink.

Why would anyone think that any "diet" drink is going to help in weight loss? It's still a form of sugar and your body will metabolize it in a similar fashion. This means that it's going to result in denovo lipogenesis - "new fat creation". If you want to lose weight then avoid the sugar and carbs, whatever form they may be in. Sugar is NOT an essential nutrient. ;)

Diet sodas have a type of sugar in them that makes weight loss harder. Soda is bad for you either way but your much better off drinking the regular plus it taste 20x better.

It says diet on the fucking can, though. Diet. You know the common vernacular for eating healthier, and less... "to go on a diet"
