Wildfires force 4,000 people to flee Australian town toward waterfront

About 4,000 residents in the southeastern town of Mallacoota in Victoria state fled toward the water Tuesday morning as winds pushed a wildfire toward their homes. The blaze has so far been able to be kept back from the shore after a change of wind, but many trapped on the beach could be forced to spend the night there. Authorities in Victoria were planning to evacuate the trapped people by sea.
