Hong Kong protesters mark first rally of 2020

Protesters gathered in large numbers for an annual New Year’s Day protest march in Hong Kong, as the pro-democracy protests continue. Although largely peaceful, violence broke out in some areas and police fired tear gas and used water cannons to disperse the demonstrators. Five people were arrested for criminal damage on suspicion of vandalism.
