Puerto Rico’s population grows for first time in 15 years

Puerto Rico experienced a slight population increase of 0.01%, or 340 inhabitants, from 2018 to 2019, for the first time in 15 years. The US territory of 3.2 million people had seen a population drop of more than 630,000 since its peak in 2004, as more people decided to migrate to the US mainland amid an economic recession that weakened the island for more than a dozen years starting in 2006.
