Thousands of marijuana convictions cleared by Governor of Illinois

11,000 pardons for low level marijuana convictions were given by the Governor of Illinois on Tuesday. The Governor described the step as part of thousands of such expungements that are being anticipated under the new marijuana legalization law of the state.

We should take Cannabis at the very least off the Federal Restriction and leave it up to the states. Ideally we should just legalize it all together because the way that marijuana was banned initially is unconstitutional if you look back historically with alcohol the government knew it needed a Amendment added to the Constitution to make it illegal but back when they started this War on Drugs they created a slew of propaganda to make certain substances illegal and they manipulated the masses into being okay with something that was blatantly unconstitutional. We also should pardon and expunged the records of any felon that has a cannabis related conviction that is non-violent.

Illinois' weed law includes, "...a 'social equity' plan to improve diversity in the industry by giving a leg up to minority entrepreneurs..." Is it just me or does it seem weird that legal pot shops are now being used to help blacks "improve " their situation in life?

Pardons are good, but expunging their convictions would be better.

At Last, our dishonest Government is admitting The Propaganda we have been fed All My Life. 65yr. Of Reefer Madness Movies. Addiction. Long Hair, Loud music, and sex fit in the claims as well. All Dishonest claims of knowledge. After being arrested, losing my job, wife, and children. While in jail wasting my life. Now it' is ok. My Hatred of this system goes beyond words, and what I wish for the people responsible. The Revenuer's. Follow the money, and you will find the true Crooks. The ones claiming to be watching out for you. The Fox Guarding the Hen house. But dont worry. It's all ok now. Just forget about the Lives of people you have destroyed.

This is good. I don't like all the racist entrepreneur stuff but getting people out of prison for lesser charges is good.

This is one of the few good things that has happened for IL this year. Its great that they legalized pot. But it means nothing to Federal workers. I know it passed the House in DC, but it probably wont go through for a while.
