3 mountain lions, found feeding on human remains, killed

Three mountain lions found feeding on human remains near a Tucson hiking trail have been killed. While not suspected of killing the person, the three were determined to be a danger to the public because they showed no fear of officers trying to remove the remains. An investigation is ongoing to identify the name and cause of death for the person found Tuesday morning.

That's pretty sad that the cougars were hungry enough to eat human remains. Probably an indication that there needs to be some updates made to the wildlife management policies there, probably need an increase of available prey for the cougars.

Why should mountain lions be afraid of humans? They're fucking lions, humans should be afraid of them. They were just eating one!

We're on their territory...killing was not the answer. Wildlife officials should have been dispatched to that area. At least a tranquilizer would have been effective. The reason these animals were shot, was because cops felt the animal didn't fear them. Duh...it's their roaming territory. You really think they give a rip??

Do we know who the remains were and has an autopsy confirmed cause of death? Those are questions that need to be asked before putting down animals in the wild be put down for doing what they are born to do, eat meat. If they killed the person then we need to look at why. Did the person have animal detterent and was it used? Did the person have concealed carry and use? If so, then maybe consider moving the mountain lions. If not, people hiking should be warned and be more careful or hike in groups (which are common sense to most who make this hobby a part of there life).

unpopular opinion: m lions should just be able to do what they do and we should be allowed guns to defend ourselves. people need to see how dangerous animals are and how guns should be used for safety purposes

Killing wild animals for doing what nature has taught them... humanity's self-righteousness makes me so sad

Maybe just relocate them, or put them in a zoo, instead of killing animals for doing animal things?

Even wild African lions are Afraid of man. It is always unfortunate when animals are put down. I don't think it's cause they don't have food, even Lions will scavenge when given the chance.

Wrong to kill them on presumptions alone. Especially since they weren't considered the ones who killed the people. should have put them somewhere where humans were less likely to be or in a sanctuary where they wouldn't be a danger. It is proven the type of predators that do go after people are normally unable to hunt, either by old age, hurt, injured, bad teeth, sick/ill, young and inexperienced, etc etc. They turn to easier prey, basically. Also if their usual prey is hard to find.
