Taiwan’s military chief killed in helicopter crash

Taiwanese Air Force General Shen Yi-ming, who is also the island’s Chief of the General Staff, has been killed after a helicopter he was traveling in made an emergency landing in mountainous terrain. The general was flying to an army base in the north-east of Taiwan. Seven of the 12 others on board the Black Hawk helicopter also perished. The crash comes a week before key parliamentary elections.

Interesting fact about him As deputy defense minister, Shen promoted international military exchanges with the United States. In regards to United States President Donald Trump, he has stated “We greatly appreciate that the US is willing to review our military sales requests on a case-by-case basis, instead of the bundling approach carried out previously", referring to military exchanges between the US and Taiwan.[3] Shortly after that comment, Taiwan received 144 upgraded F-16V fighter jets with a US$330 million deal (Source: Wikipedia)
