Legal cannabis brings in $3.2 million on first day sales in Illinois

Illinois’ marijuana shops brought in nearly $3.2 million on the first day of legal sales, after Governor J.B. Pritzker signed legislation to legalize small amounts of marijuana for recreational use. A total of 37 state dispensaries made 77,128 transactions on Wednesday. Illinois is the 11th state to legalize the drug.

now how fast is the tax revenue going to be used up without anything effective being done?

If it's licensed then it has to be policed as well. Costs will go up a bit and the state is going to spend that money then look for more ways to tax it. Because Taxation is Theft.

We've had legal cannabis here in Canada for some time. The government soaks up the lion's share of the revenue, either by directly operating retail outlets or by taxing profits as high as 90% depending on the province. So far the people have seen no benefit apart from being able to use their debit or credit cards to purchase the mind-dulling, time-wasting drug. The additional government revenue hasn't translated to lower individual or sales taxes, and in fact most Canadians are seeing their cost of living go up due to Trudeau's carbon tax. Meanwhile, Canada continues to send billions of dollars in aid to African dictatorships, and our per capita immigration rates remain the highest in the western world. Immigrants are receiving many times more income assistance than born Canadians, who continue to struggle while non-Canadians live off their tax dollars. Canadians are too baked to realize any of it, though, and if you try to point it out to them they'll just call you racist.

I love all the comments about how high the tax rate is. I dont like it either but it's a win against an authoritarian government telling you you cant own a plant. Also I really hope everyone complaining about the tax on it is also talking about the taxes on gasoline...since the vast majority of gasoline costs at the pump are pure tax.

Yeah because those crooks are taking 35% off the package. Illinois is nothing but a cartel.
