Bernie Sanders calls for shutdown of vaping industry, then walks it back

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders was asked about how he would handle the vaping crisis to which Sanders responded by saying he would shut it down. But recently, in a town hall meeting, the Vermont senator called for vaping industries to shutdown ’if the evidence’ is that people are getting sick because of it. An aide said, Sanders wants more study and regulation of the industry.

I'm not in support of the prohibition of anything and I hate to sound like a broken record but what about the cigarettes why are you making such a big fucking deal over a few dozen deaths related to vaping when we have hundreds of thousands related to tobacco. And yes I'm calling out Trump to this Boomer shit has gotta to stop and accomplishes nothing. Let consenting adults make their own decisions it's supposed to be a free country and no Bernie not that kind of free.

This whole thing is dumb. They need to leave vaping alone. Let adults do what they will, and just put VERY harsh penalties on folks who sell them to kids. Maybe only allow registered vape shops to still them, like weed is. But banning anything for adults because "think of the kids" excuse is freaking stupid.

The vice article headline pretty much sums it up. Also cigarettes are still legal so it makes this whole thing look really disingenuous. Exercise some consistency if people’s lives are what you’re actually worried about

I support Sanders but I critique him on this and also his approach to drugs. He wants to legalize marijuana which is good, but Yang is the only one talking about decriminalizing all drugs. Do not ban vapes, do not ban drugs, do not ban guns. I do not want a black market for anything.

If vaping is shut down for addiction, wouldn't that also apply to cigarettes and alcohol? Hell, anti-anxiety meds are addictive, which is probably why people stay on then for the rest of their lives. As for banning substances, I'd likely only do so when it becomes a problem with people other than that user. I've had addiction problems in the past. I took action. It's been ten years now and I have no desire to go back to it. In the end, you are willing to change or you are not. It's not up to the government to micromanage our lives.

New evidence has come out since the first comment. We learned the injuries were caused by black market products.

I don't agree with that if it's true. If people want to die by way of vaping it's their business. Same with cigarettes. There's enough information out out there for people to make informed choices and if they choose to vape then suffer the consequences. The FDA is allowing harmful drugs into the marketplace all the time and only a handful of public citizen groups are calling them out on it. Start busting the FDA's balls first where pharmaceuticals are supposed to save lives instead of hurting them.
