Volcanic lightning occurs particularly with eruptions that produce a lot of ash. As per one expert, ’When an explosive volcanic eruption produces an ash column, collisions between ash particles produce friction, which generates electrical charge’.

Time lapse video of the lightning. I have been to this part of the Philippines. On a nice day from Tagaytay this is a very beautiful place. A “dormant” volcano in the middle of a roundish lake. Surrounded from that side with very touristy resorts and great eats. Quite a different look the last few days for sure.
